The Project Director will have the primary responsibility for the overall technical and managerial requirements of project performance. The project director will oversee project implementation and ensure the project meets stated goals and reporting requirements and strengthens global leadership and impact. They will also have principal responsibility for representation of the project to UNITAID.

Please note this position is contingent upon award to PATH and approval from the donor. 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the project team overall and oversee all technical and operational facets of the project, including planning and execution.
  • To direct the development of technical and programmatic activities as well as project work planning, provide excellent strategic and technical leadership and vision.
  • Ascertain that all project partners are in agreement with the project’s aims, objectives, and schedules. To guarantee efficient coordination throughout the project’s lifecycle, this entails creating open channels of communication and cultivating a good working rapport with outside partners.
  • Act as the point of contact with UNITAID, regional and international partners, and other development and donor organizations (e.g., WHO, Global Fund).
  • Oversee the work plans, budgets, and finances in compliance with PATH and UNITAID policies and procedures, and manage the effective and efficient use of project resources to attain the intended project outcomes.
  • As needed, make sure that programmatic and financial reporting to UNITAID is correct and on time, in line with project goals, and compliant with applicable SOPs and regulations.
  • To guarantee that goals and objectives are achieved within allotted time frames and financial constraints, plan, direct, and coordinate activities.
  • Give project employees direction and coaching so they may accomplish project objectives and grow as leaders.
  • On project-related issues, cultivate and preserve connections with internal and external stakeholders, such as government colleagues, public, private, and implementing partner organizations.

Core competencies/required skills:

  • A master’s or doctoral degree (PhD, MD) in public health or a related discipline with a track record of success in pediatrics, obstetrics, or midwifery.
  • ten years or more of experience in international health programming, with at least five of those years spent in senior management roles and project management of big, intricate initiatives.
  • At least eight years of increasingly responsible experience working as a technical helper and conducting research in a number of areas, including antenatal care, monitoring and evaluation, operations research, advocacy, and HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis prevention, diagnostics, and treatment research.
  • demonstrated capacity to establish cooperative partnerships with donors, host-country governments, and national and international health and development organizations, as well as to network and work efficiently with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • proven ability to manage multi-partner consortia and engage partners in an effective manner.
  • strong ability to manage people and projects.
  • Preferred are prior UNITAID program experience and working knowledge of UNITAID requirements.
  • proven track record of effectively managing and leading interdisciplinary teams to produce health outcomes in a hectic setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to plan, coordinate, and manage resources for projects’ effective completion.
  • outstanding English communication abilities, both in writing and speaking.
  • Proficiency in professional French communication is a plus.
  • Up to 25% of travel is possible both domestically and abroad.
