A joint research unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the National Institute for Medical Research, the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) is situated on the National Institute for Medical Research campus in Mwanza, Tanzania. By conducting research, including clinical trials, to the highest international standards, the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit aims to improve health by developing and evaluating interventions against HIV and other health issues; strengthening Tanzania’s and East Africa’s capacity to conduct such research; and helping to translate research findings into health policy. MITU is actively conducting human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination trials in conjunction with other international research partners.
We are looking for a competent and motivated Data Manager to join the Unit’s data team. To make sure that the data section efficiently supports the execution of MITU projects, the Data Manager will collaborate closely with the Senior Data Manager and other Data Managers.
The chosen candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar discipline, preferably with advanced training in clinical research data management. Proven technical proficiency in database administration and design, experience managing clinical data in a research setting, and practical knowledge of GCP are all things they should be able to exhibit.
Principal Responsibilities:
To oversee the daily data management of the studies that the Senior Data Manager assigns him or her, and to make sure that departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) are rigorously adhered to in every study. Maintain a database of assigned studies and create study-specific data management plans in close collaboration with the senior data manager and study teams. to input laboratory, questionnaire, and other study data into a database for a variety of research projects.
Specific Responsibilities:
- To create, validate, and maintain clinical trial databases and create data management plans tailored to individual studies.
- To compare the first and second entries and update the research databases as needed.
- To guarantee that data queries are sent, monitored, and accurately and promptly addressed.
- To add query resolutions to study databases.
- To guarantee that field teams handle and use electronic devices (such as tablets and/or smartphones) for data collecting appropriately, charge them appropriately, and keep them securely in the data section.
- Must regularly report completed work and plans for the following day or days to the Senior Data Manager.
- Utilize a variety of software programs to enter data into a computer.
- To perform additional tasks as needed.
