The hub offers co-working space to its members, runs in-house incubation and acceleration programs, and hosts regular events with stakeholders from the ecosystem. Headquartered in Berlin, the Westerwelle Foundation currently operates hubs in Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Kenya. It runs support programs focused on business ideation, proof of concept, and international acceleration. The Arusha hub provides a collaborative space for startups to develop and connect with other stakeholders.

The community assistant plays a key role in welcoming guests, assisting members with daily needs, and maintaining the coworking space. You will support the onboarding of new members, manage communication on internal platforms, and help gather feedback to improve the overall community experience. This role also involves organizing and executing community events, coordinating logistics, and supporting coworking space sales by giving tours and responding to inquiries.

The community assistant is an active, on-the-ground presence within the space, helping to foster strong connections among members and ensuring the community remains engaged and supported. You will contribute to building a space that reflects the energy and values of WSHA’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The community assistant reports directly to the community & marketing manager and collaborates with the global director of community & marketing.

Responsibilities 

Community & Space:

  • Oversees the reception area and provides potential customers with tours.
  • Assists with ad hoc member needs (printing, room reservations, etc.)
  • Maintains positive relationships with all community members (partners, co-working, and programs).
  • Takes care of minor space enhancements and makes sure the area is tidy and clean.
  • Helps with ordering community inventories (notifying Finance & Operations to place supply orders as necessary).
  • Aids in managing co-working contracts
  • Welcomes new members by introducing them to the space and other participants.
  • Makes sure Nexudus has the most recent member information.
  • Community platform: Answers to every post and message on the WSH channel
  • Uses satisfaction questionnaires to get input from members.
  • Controls access to the area by adding and removing users from the biometrics database.

Sales:

  • Gives space tours to prospective clients
  • Responds to incoming coworking and event inquiries via email, phone, and walk-ins

Events:

  • Supports with the organization of community events with support from Community & Marketing Manager
  • Supports with organization of large programme events with support from Community & Marketing Manager
  • Coordinates event logistics (e.g., space preparations) with support from Community & Marketing Manager

Requirements:

  • Expertise in client relationship management and customer service, with a particular emphasis on problem-solving and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated ability to do administrative tasks with accuracy, effectiveness, and a high level of organization.
  • It is necessary to speak Swahili and English fluently; knowing other languages is advantageous.
  • It helps to be familiar with internet communication tools and coworking platforms like Nexudus.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a warm, inviting manner that encourages members to connect and trust one another.
  • Extremely meticulous and proactive in upholding quality, consistency, and order.
  • Excellent communication abilities both in writing and speaking; able to interact with a wide range of people and communicate effectively across many platforms.
  • Adept at using technologies like Asana, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and others for productivity and project management.
  • Self-driven and flexible, able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
  • Natural networker and self-assured public speaker, at ease organizing events and addressing large crowds.
  • Strong coordination and logistical abilities, especially when it comes to scheduling, event planning, and multitasking.
