Act of Parliament No. 23 of 1979 (CAP.59, R.E.2002) created the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), a parastatal body that started operations in 1980. One of the NIMR facilities in the Mwanza area is the NIMR Mwanza Research Centre. Currently, the center is working on research projects related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), HIV/AIDS, TB, and other disorders of public health significance.

Parent App for Early Years
In order to determine whether the Parent App for the Early Years is feasible, NIMR is working with the University of Oxford (UK), the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), and REPSSI. Three related sub-studies that recruit parents of children in three age groups are part of this study:
- Third trimester of pregnancy to 9 months
- 10 months to 4 years 11 months
- 5 years to 9 years
The study’s objectives are to evaluate app usage trends and pinpoint participation barriers and enablers. It looks for ways to reach vulnerable families with parenting programs via digital platforms without requiring expensive resources or complicated logistics. The Dar es Salaam region will be the site of the study.
Project Coordinator (1 Post)
Reporting: The post holder will report to the Project Principal Investigator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing research protocols, pretesting, and piloting data collection tools.
- Train and build the capacity of junior project staff, including data collectors.
- Plan and supervise data collection in the Dar es Salaam region.
- Conduct periodic quality checks on collected data.
- Liaise with the local PI and the data management team for data processing.
- Monitor data collection for saturation of salient themes.
- Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepare progress and final evaluation reports.
- Ensure proper utilization of project resources and properties, including funds and vehicles.
- Collaborate with the Accounts unit to complete financial reports.

Qualifications and Competence:

NIMR, in collaboration with Rigshospitalet (Danish National Hospital), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the University of Liverpool, is conducting a clinical trial to test novel ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF) and a psychosocial stimulation program. The trial will assess cognitive and nutritional outcomes among malnourished children in the Mwanza region.
Clinical Officer (5 Posts)
Duties:
- Perform clinical assessments.
- Use authorized surveys to gather clinical data.

Qualifications:
